The Early Guitar and Biographies of Important Guitarists in Japan

 

Japan’s first contact with Europe came in 1542 with the arrival of traders from Macau (near Hong Kong). The Jesuits arrived soon afterwards and set up schools which taught many subjects including music performance. The instruments taught included the organ, viola, trumpet, harp, and the lute.
