Arctic Sonata was written by Gulli Björnsson in 2015 and is dedicated to Steve Cowan. It is influenced by the two Icelandic sagas (the Saga of Erik the Red, and Greenland Saga) that tell the tale of Icelandic Vikings colonizing Greenland, and briefly and abruptly, North America. This first movement, "Voyage", is in three connected sections that are musical representations of the three lands the Vikings sailed to in North America: Helluland (described as being inhospitable and rocky; most likely Baffin island), Markland (described as a big forest; likely Labrador), and Vinland (Newfoundland, described as being beautiful and with plenty of berries to make wine).

The premiere recording of the entire Sonata will be released in on Steve's forthcoming album with the EMEC discos label in Madrid, Spain.

Arctic Sonata is published by Productions D'Oz. Steve Cowan plays on a guitar by Bruno Boutin.
