K. 99 (0:00) K. 408 (3:33) K. 1 (7:00) Sheet music available on my website (the very same i'm reading from), thanks to all who purchased the last set. http://www.classicalguitarist.ca/publ... Also, the Schubert Impromptu sheet music is now available, arranged for two six-string guitars. All six Sonatas will be on audio streaming platforms soon.

Sonata K.99 caught my attention when I heard a beautiful recording by Fou Ts'ong (piano). Originally, I didn't think it would fit on the guitar very well, but to my surprise it did. The original key is C minor, which is possible with this arrangement if you capo the 3rd fret. When practicing it slowly, there are some haunting sections that remind me of something Thom Yorke would write. The great guitarist Isaac Bustos also has an amazing live video of this sonata you should check out.

Sonata K. 408 came to me via a student who had seen a great video by Italian guitarist Christina Galieto. We embarked on arranging it together and it really sits in the hands very well. The imitation in the beginning is very fun to practice. It's the easiest one of the three, but as I get older those are the ones I like to play.

Sonata K. 1 has been done a lot, but I had arranged it for some students entering competitions and decided to make a video. Also, I liked the idea of doing K99 and K1 for some reason. It's a great piece, especially for a K.1! I kept the trills very straightforward. even simplifying them to something more appropriate for a student. If you haven't heard Rene Izquierdo play this, i'd definitely check it out! The arrangements on my site have very detailed fingerings, as I found it really prevents students from making some questionable decisions on their own.
