Le Montagnard, which translates from French into "The Mountaineer," depicts the exhilarating tale of one man's journey to the mountain's summit. In Rondeau Montagnard, the second and final movement of the work, the adventurer has completed his pastoral odyssey and stands before his final challenge - ascending the mountain itself. With playful melodies and surprising twists, Coste portrays both the difficulties and delights involved in such an arduous undertaking, ultimately ending with sheer triumph as the mountaineer surmounts his beast.
