Narciso Yepes: "Estanislao Marco was one of the favourite disciples of Tárrega. I was fortunate enough to study with him. The Tárrega School bifurcated into two, those who played with the fingertips, and those who grew their nails. To the first group belong: Estanislao Marco, Josefina Robledo, Salvador García and Emilio Pujol. The second: Miguel Llobet and Joaquín García de la Rosa, with whom I also had the fortune to study. He [Marco] was an old man and I a boy of thirteen, but I remember that contact as a miracle of my existence. We talked as if we were both the same age. I forget who approached whom, but I'm sure it was the key to the rapport established between pupil and teacher and the passing on not only of knowledge and experience but a mysterious affection. This Guajira is the first work that a composer wrote for me and I want ... to pay tribute to the man who put his trust in me when I was a teenager.
