Brazilian guitarist and composer Sergio Assad has worked tirelessly to expand the guitar’s possibilities through arrangements of music ranging from the Baroque to the Contemporary, as well as the music of numerous Latin American composers. Additionally, many of his original compositions for the instrument, of which there are over forty, have become standards in the repertoire. Assad was born into a musical family and began writing and arranging music to play with his brother Odair in his early teens; the Assad Brothers guitar duo is now widely considered the greatest and most influential guitar duo of our time. Sergio studied conducting and composition at the Escola Nacional de Musica in Rio de Janeiro, holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Arizona, and now teaches at the San Francisco Conservatory of...
