Standard tuning but tuned down a half step Keeping the speed in check is one of the most difficult parts of playing this song. Too fast and it sounds rushed, too slow and you lose the swing feel. I was way too fast when I learned it and started to use a stopwatch to time my performance. I practiced it until my version was as long as Big Bill's (around two minutes and fourty seven seconds). Sadly he never recorded the song again when he was 'rediscovered' in the 50ies. On the other hand he used most of the licks of "Long Tall Mama" in his instrumentals like "House Rent Stomp" and "Shuffle Rag" (he probably taught the lyrics were too smutty for the european audiences in the...
