My recording of Federic Mompou's Suite Compostelana. It is one of the three original guitar solo works of the ingenious catalan composer. He wrote it for the spanish guitarist Andres Segovia who had been a teaching colleague of Mompou at the musical masterclasses in Santiago de Compostela. The Suite consists of 6 movements which I will place one by one on youtube. I recorded the Suite Compostelana, Cancion y Danza Nr. 13 and a set of Canciones y Danzas from Mompou's piano works in 2000. At that time the original scores were still not available in print. Hence - preparing the recording - I visited Mompou's wife Carmen Bravo in Barcelona. She was so kind to show me all the autograph manuscripts of her husband's guitar works she had so that I could copy the differences which existed in Andres Segovias version of the piece (Ed. Salabert). Moreover - and this was an unforgettable moment of my life - I played the pieces to her while she told me her ideas of Momopou's music. So I was able to use informations from the very first hand - about two movements she even told me exactly the reason of the musical inspiration which lead to a melody. My recording was probably the first recording of Mompou's guitar pieces in the original version. (In 2000 it was still unknown that Mompou also had transcribed his piano work Cancion y Danza Nr.10 for guitar also).
