I teach this song in my Lesson Pack Volume 9 https://www.daddystovepipe.com/guitar... One of Jelly Roll Morton's most famous songs. He recorded this rather late in his career although he must have played it when he was a youngster playing piano in the New Orleans "playhouses". There's much debate about the meaning of the song...I find the most plausible explanation in the book "Dead Man Blues" by Phil Pastras. The correct title should be "Winding Boy" as winding means "rotating the hips in dancing or in sexual intercourse". The refrain of the song includes a reference to Stavin' Chain, a blues man notorious for the sexual content of his lyrics (and a possible reference to the characteristics of his 'equipment'). Although Morton explained Alan Lomax who recorded him at the Library of Congress that the song was about mixing wine...ha ha Jelly Roll recorded this song several times during his Library of Congress recordings (Rounder 11661-1898-2 - a must-have if you're interested in JR Morton) with very explicit lyrics.
