This is a copy of a guitar that was built by Georg Daniel Schöne sometime between 1800 and 1807. Schöne had a workshop in Christiania (now Oslo), Norway where he built guitars, pianos, harps and other instruments. The original of this guitar is now at Ringve instrument museum in unplayable condition. It was salvaged from a dump site in the early 1970s by a worker who thought it was too beautiful to get crushed (thank you anonymous dump site worker who saved a valuable piece of guitar history). Luthier Leonardo Michelin-Salomon has been doing extensive research on 19th century guitar making and this guitar is a part of his fellowship research project that finishes summer 2021.
