By now, the contributions of the greater Near East to the development of Spanish guitar music should be well known; but even if today’s strummed styles of the everpopular guitar manage to pique any amateur interest in history prior to the advent of Rock and Roll in the United States of America, the focus is all too often stuck on Flamenco or its techniques as borrowed by Classical guitarists.1 For professional musicians and those interested in the scholarly literature, some Moorish influences on guitar music continue as frequently referenced and relatively undisputed facts, while others remain apparently either unenticing or effectively...
