The first version of “Lagrime mie d’affanno” is found in the 6th Set of Three Italian Arietts for voice and piano, but it's completely different musical composition for the same text than the version for the guitar. Another version of the song for voice and guitar is found in the Méthode pour la guitare (Paris, 1830), where Sor uses this song to demonstrate how to write a good guitar accompaniment. During his life Sor wrote songs in Spanish, French and Italian. In this genre of music he demonstrates his wide cultural knowledge of different traditions and ability to capture something essential of the style in question whether it's a French chansonette, a Spanish seguidilla or an Italian ariette (like this Lagrime mie d’affanno) with bel canto style not far from Bellini.
