"La Catedral" was composed for classical guitar in 1921 (Montevideo) by Agustín Barrios Mangoré. Barrios wrote originally two movements ("Andante Religioso" - "Allegro Solemne") and later on a Preludio was added - Preludio Saudade. It is fascinating the amount of versions we have listened of this masterpiece overtime, mostly due to the variety of interpretations Barrios did of it. Before we move onto to the analysis itself, I would like to refer that sources are enormously valuable but not all of them are reliable. La Catedral suffered modifications throughout Barrios' life, having been rewritten in 1938 (La Habana), in 1939 (Costa Rica) and in 1943 (El Salvador), for instance.
