Chinese music has become a significant part of the contemporary classical guitar repertoire. This recording uses classical guitar to explore the different musical styles produced by the fusion of Chinese and Western musical traditions. Listeners experience the essence of Chinese melodies and the unique timbre of traditional instruments such as pipa and guqin, which are combined with the expressive power of classical guitar to create a unique listening experience. Featuring works by Chinese and international composers, this recording showcases the harmonious fusion of guitar technique and Chinese musical elements. The pieces recorded and discussed are Seven Desires for Guitar (2002) by Tan Dun, The Chinese Garden (2007) by Stephen Goss, Dance of the Orient (2013) by Mark Houghton, The Flow (2016) by Weinan Xia, The Moon Represents My Heart (Arr. Roland Dyens) by Ching-hsi Weng, Soberless Dance (In the Mountains) (2021) by Yangfan Xu, and Ecstatic Burial for guitar and string quartet (2023) by Yangfan Xu.
